- Cornwall or Cornwell? - Explanation of Name Change from Harriett Cornwall in letter dated January 22, 1970 to her grand daughter Priscilla:
"Hiram Cornwell and his three sons Charles, William and Ernest used the "well" and the three girls Lois, Alida and Helen Martha (Nellie Butler) used "wall". Your grandfather Roy M and I were married "well" but I had trouble getting packages and letters (perhaps because of my Ohio accent.) One day I asked since half of the family uses "wall", why don't we? and he said "I don't care, if you think it is prettier". So it was "wall" from there on."
- How Roy and Harriett met and wed. From a letter from Harriett Cornwall to her grand daughter Priscilla in 1970:
"Your grandfather Roy M went to Binghamton to work in 1910 for Vail Ballue Company then located on Henry Street between Washington and State Streets where the post office has stood since about 1920. One night a fire broke out so Vail-Ballue sent seven men including your grandfather to Coshocton, Ohio where they had another book publishing company for several years. My parents owned and operated a hotel with 55 bed rooms, some double and some single. It was supported by thirty glass blowers from September 1st to July 1st and also several "traveling men" regularly two nights per week. The seven printers stayed with us. They were mad because they were sent to a little town (15 thousand) so they were silly and rather fresh. I had charge of the dining room with six waitresses under me. The printers were there three weeks before I would visit with them. Then Sunday evening the fire truck went down the street and most people in town followed. I and your grandfather followed. The following week I had a date every evening then the bunch was called back to Binghamton. Then it was letters until July 20, 1911. I went on an excursion trip to Niagra Falls and Roy M's aunts invited me to visit in their home with him for a week. We were married October 18, 1911 in Coshocton's "Standen Hotel" and went to Binghamton to live, 1st four months at 80 Leroy Street, then bought furniture and moved on N. Front Street march 1912. Then 1916 with Edward and Jimmy we moved to Matthews Street hill #140. July 1924 to 2 Schiller Street with 2 boys and 2 girls and 2 old aunts. Roy died August 17, 1932. Then I opened the grocery store at that address."
