- From Marcine Lohman in Ancestry Message Boards:
John Thornton immigrated to Newport in 1648 at age 14 (not confirmed). Although this would seem to indicate that he was not born in Rhode Island but most likely England. I have later found a record of immigration stating that John Thornton immigrated in 1639 at the age of 5 with the primary immigrant also being named John Thornton (his father perhaps?) [Filby, P. William, ed. Passenger and Immigration Lists Index, 1500s - 1900s, Farmington Hills, MI, USA: Gale Research, 2006,Place: Newport, Rhode Island, Year: 1639; page number: 288, Immigrated in 1639.
- The LDS Family Search site lists a John Thonreton christened 3 Aug 1634 in Cockerham, Lancashire, England with his father being John Thorneton.
